Wrought iron Information

Wrought iron is commercially pure iron. Wrought iron contains less than 0.25% carbon. Wrought iron produced, such as : straps for timber roof trusses, nails, handrails, railway couplings, bolts, nuts, water and steam pipes, horseshoes, chains, rivets, and ornamental ironwork.

Wrought iron has a very low carbon content (0.25 % carbon) and it is a fibrous material due to the slag inclusions

Mild steel has been replaced wrought iron. Mild steel corrodes more readily that wrought iron, but is cheaper and more widely available. So, Wrought iron is no longer produced on a commercial scale.

The Eiffel tower in paris is constructed from puddle iron. Puddle iron is a type of wrought iron. Puddle iron production process was invented at the end of the eighteenth century, following an increase in the need for wrought iron.
